Structure of the Order

The Order of the Nithraelas follows a dual-path structure, offering its members the choice to pursue the path of the Spellblade or the Seeker. While these paths allow for specialization, they are bound by a shared foundation and purpose. Regardless of which path is chosen, all members are expected to uphold the Order’s traditions and develop a well-rounded understanding of its teachings.


Spellblades focus on the art of combat, wielding both blade and magic in harmony. They embody the martial ideals of the Order, dedicating themselves to mastering spellblade techniques while honing their physical and mental strength. However, even as warriors, Spellblades are expected to explore the arcane disciplines taught within the Order’s curriculum, from astromancy to alchemy, and to apply these teachings in their craft.


Seekers by contrast, devote themselves to the pursuit of knowledge. They delve into the mysteries of ley energies, runes, and the arcane, unraveling the secrets of the cosmos to advance the Order’s understanding. Yet, this path is not one of theory alone; Seekers are also trained in the basics of spellblade combat, ensuring they are prepared to defend themselves and the Order’s principles when needed.


Whether you choose the path of the Spellblade or the Seeker, your journey will be one of balance. Both paths demand dedication, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the Order’s teachings. For the Nithraelas, strength comes from unity, and the threads of knowledge and combat are woven together to form a stronger whole.

Awards

Members of the Order - or allies in the Fellowship - may earn tokens of merit, awarded for notable displays of strength, honour, loyalty, discipline, or skill.When relevant, these are presented during the Order's monthly assembly under the full moon.

To rise to the rank of Master, an Asterrai must earn tokens of Strength, Honour, and Loyalty - proof of their excellence, and a testament to their commitment to the three core virtues of the Order.

Positions within the Order

For the time being, the order is in a state of new growth - still reforming, with only a single master in the ranks. However, in the future, as the order grows, more positions will open to cover the increased workload.These positions operate within the framework of the order, and are voluntary responsibilities taken up by the most devoted members who feel a calling to help, or who are uniquely equipped to teach one class better than anybody else.Among them are;

✧ The Battlemaster; whose duty it is to instruct initiates in the way of the sword

✧ The Lorekeeper; who oversees the curriculum and dissemination of knowledge in the order

✧ The Quartermaster; a second in command whose duty it is to handle administration

✧The Huntsmaster; who is in charge of monitoring the movements of chief antagonists

✧ The Leywalker; who has masterfully understood the intersection between nature and the arcane

✧ The Theurgist; who can wisely instruct students in dealing with the dark arts

The Fellowship

The Fellowship is integral to the Order of the Nithraelas; even if they are not a part of it.They are comprised of the many adventurers whose paths have crossed that of the Order, and who in some cases have even helped enable its restoration - but who do not feel a calling to join the order and follow its rather strict codes and virtues.Although members of the Fellowship do not enjoy every privilege of being a member of the Order, they are considered honoured friends - family - and will at times even contribute to the curriculum by voluntarily hosting lessons, just as they will often heed the call to arms and join the Nithraelas in battle.

How are they forged?

The Arcblade is forged by an Initiate, and marks the final challenge they must complete in order to become an apprentice.In many ways, the creation of the Arcblade mirrors their progress. Parallel to being instructed in the old ways, they arduously gather the appropriate materials - the materials that best represent who they are, as well as the tools required by tradition to complete the forging process.They are on a journey of self discovery, learning more about their own limits and powers - and getting to the bottom of who they are, at their core.This journey is complete when they combine all of their knowledge, and their gathered materials, to forge a weapon that becomes an instrument of their will, and a physical representation of who they are.Like chiseling your greatest inner self from marble - only it is in steel.

Arcblades are an integral part of the Nithraelas. An ancient technique of forging weapons, said to originate with the master smith Luminarian - whose apprentice passed the secret down through the ages, within the order of the Nithraelas.Every Initiate of the order must complete their initiation by forging their very own Arcblade - and then bond with it for life through a mysterious trial; the Iszéra Dûne.Afterwards, they will carry the Arcblade with them, and over time, the enchantments, marks or other changes they make to the blade will tell their life story.The most striking and well-known feature of an Arcblade is hidden away within the secrets of its making. Ancient magic creates a weapon that is not merely a blade; but a living symbol and embodiment of its creator. It holds the wielder accountable for life - and will always remind them of who they were at their best.
Who they should aspire to become again.Here follows the only IC rule that characters are expected to adhere to In Character.
This rule may be broken as part of a good story.

✦ I: Always by your side
An Arcblade is a companion for life, and as such must always be carried or at the very least remain close to the character. One is allowed to stash it away in a bottomless bag, or conceal it temporarily for subtlety, or even leave it in a rack voluntarily, but one must never leave it behind, nor surrender it unwillingly to anyone who asks for- or demands it.

OOC

Arcblades are a staple of RP in the Nithraelas. Every member will make one sooner or later - and when they do, they are expected to follow some 'Rules' to maintain the vibes of these swords, and protect the 'epic' feeling that they have successfully garnered in RP thus far.After all - nothing is 'legendary' without a serious amount of effort poured into it.Unlike the IC rules, these are not supposed to be broken. They are as follows:

✦ I: Arcblades are unique
Once a model is in use, it's in use. First come, first serve. As the weapons are a reflection of the maker, and every maker is unique, it is important that every weapon is unique as well.This also applies to recolors of a weapon, on a case by case basis.(A catalogue of every model in use is being made - Work in Progress)

✦ II: Arcblades have feelings
The weapons are a product of emotion, therefore the emotions that most characterize your character at the time of creation, must remain within the weapon forever. If anyone touches your weapon in the future, you must tell them to roll a D20, and send them an emote of the feeling they sense when touching your weapon, with a higher roll typically rewarding the touch with a more pleasant feeling, and a lower roll with a less pleasant feeling.

✦ III: Arcblades are- well.. blades
Because of the themes of the Nithraelas, members are not allowed to create 'Arc-staves', 'Arc-clubs' or 'Arc-bows'.In general, spears and swords are preferred, because the "cutting ability" of a weapon with a blade's edge is a large part of the storytelling that supports the Nithraelas on a deeper level - and many of the 'Spellblade Techniques and Forms' in the Guild's curriculum are built around the movements of a weapon that behaves like a blade would.Much of this is lost with any other Arc-creation, such as if someone were to fire arrows from a distance.However, if one has an exceptionally good and character-specific idea, it could be discussed.

✦ IV: Arcblades are demanding
If a character no longer lives up to the expectations of their blade, the blade will no longer obey them, and may actively try to stop them.As an example, when Tylis created Elegy, she had very high standards for who she would fight. For that reason, if Tylis ever tries to draw her blade against the likes of a drunk, or an angry parrot, Elegy may refuse to leave its scabbard altogether; because Elegy is holding Tylis to her own, past standards.

✦ V: Arcblades are loyal
One cannot reliably wield an Arcblade made by somebody else. Just as they hold their own maker accountable, they are also exceptionally scrutinizing toward anyone who would try to wield them, and have a high bar for who they would consider worthy of them.It is up to you, as a player, to determine whether you believe someone touching your blade would be worthy of it in the eyes of the blade. If you are in doubt, this can be helped by asking them to roll a D20.One exception to this rule, so far, has been the prevalent theme of a character inheriting a blade of an ancestor, with it being far more likely to accept the descendant as a worthy wielder.✦ VI: Arcblades are Arcane
An Arcblade must be forged from a material that is an excellent conductor of arcane energy.
Arcanite and Leystone are the most widely known and applied materials. Mithril is also said to have such properties, as is Titanium though using such a rare material would require an exceptionally long and worthy story to do it justice.
Elementium is strictly forbidden - as are other metals that represent a thematic clash of what the Nithraelas stand for.While wielding Fel with an Arcblade is possible, and not disallowed on an OOC level, it is a very big taboo IC.
Wielding any other kind of magic, such as light, shadow or necromancy through one's Arcblade is generally disallowed IC, and even to some extent OOC - though this is a case by case thing.

Our Roleplay

High Fantasy:Magic lies at the heart of our roleplay, shaping the world and the stories we tell. While we embrace the grandeur and creativity of spellcraft, we hold storytelling above all else. Magic should serve to enrich the narrative - not bypass it. We encourage characters to wield their powers boldly, but with consequences. Think: spells that misfire, unintended outcomes of magic, and 'solutions' that only create more problems.Our focus is not on pushing the limits of believability, or indulging in unchecked power fantasies.
Shining brightly should only be fun until the inevitable fall that follows.We tell stories of triumph and sacrifice, where every victory comes at a cost and every choice carries weight.
Expect mature and darker themes - and lots of conflict between characters! Infighting is a staple of our stories.




Collaborated Storytelling:The Nithraelas thrives on a balance of independence and structured storytelling. While we provide a foundation of weekly activities - such as lessons and a monthly meeting to align our stories - much of our roleplay is driven by the creativity and initiative of our members.You could be developing your character’s personal arc, forging relationships with guildies, or weaving your story into larger guild events. We encourage you to take an active role in shaping your experience; and in turn, we will do our best to catch the balls you throw; and throw them back with more.


Where?Our roleplay is as mobile as it gets. The Nithraelas have no fixed base yet - we roam through Azeroth’s many hubs, following the flow of roleplay wherever it may lead.
That said, there are a few key locations we return to regularly, serving as touchstones for our shared stories. This roving style allows us to explore the beautiful World of Warcraft, without getting bogged down in the same location for weeks at a time, fighting the same fights in the same bends of the road, for tenth time.

Progression:Beyond the personal stories of each member, the Nithraelas offers a progression system designed to immerse your character in the traditions of the old ways.Beginning as an initiate, your character would embark on a journey of growth and self-discovery, earning the privilege of forging a unique weapon that reflects who they truly are.Once equipped with this instrument of their will, they are ready to become an apprentice - learning ancient techniques, and honing their craft through practice and exploration under the mentorship of someone more experienced.In time, they will ascend to the role of a mentor, taking on an apprentice of their own and passing the torch to the next generation.

Community

By the standards of online communities, ours certainly ranks among the more tight-knit. The Nithraelas started almost three years ago, as a backstory to one character - and has developed into a guild through thousands of hours of roleplay.Over the years, this has led to very tight bonds and fellowship, both IC and OOC.
We’re proud of the camaraderie we’ve built, but we understand that it can feel a bit daunting to join a group with such a long history.If you’re drawn to the idea of long-term commitments, meaningful friendships, and collaborative storytelling, we warmly invite you to become part of this evolving journey. Recruitment & Requirements

"How do I join?"Joining the Nithraelas is not a quick decision - and we make a point out of never acting with needless urgency. It's not as if we are going anywhere; and if something is meant to be, it will happen eventually.We value chemistry and collaboration within our guild, which is why we prefer to take the time to get to know prospective members before making any commitments.Typically, this involves a couple of weeks of roleplay together, allowing both sides to determine whether the fit feels right.Ideally, this process is fully organic, and happens exclusively through RP.
In other words; if we have sparked your interest, we generally encourage you to simply approach one of our characters, and see where the RP leads.

✧ Classes
As an order of Spellblades, Spellbows, and Scholars, the study of the Arcane, Ley Lines and the Stars are a foundational aspect of who we are.
We seek characters whose stories are deeply tied to magic - whether as disciplined wielders, aspiring talents, academic explorers of the stars or scholars delving into the mysteries of runes, ley energy and their influence on the nature of Azeroth.If you are already a masterful Spellblade, you may think that joining an order where one must begin as an initiate is moot, or unrealistic. But we would urge you to reconsider. Your character may be greatly experienced - and that would help them advance, without a doubt, but ultimately, no amount of prior knowledge and skill can prepare you for the specific traditions and methods of a different order.



✧ Races
Our guild’s roleplay also focuses heavily on themes of Highborne and Thalassian culture - and as such, we primarily recruit Elven characters to uphold this focus.
However, we’re open to considering Humans or other exceptional candidates whose magical talents and stories can seamlessly integrate with our narrative.



✧ Religious Characters
The philosophy of the Nithraelas holds that true greatness comes solely from inner persistence and mutual fellowship, rejecting the notion that any external power can serve as a savior.
It is integral to the Nithraelas that you see yourself as the master of your fate, and the captain of your soul.
As such, characters with strong religious beliefs cannot formally join the Nithraelas. However, they are welcome to participate in the fellowship and maintain their personal beliefs.


✧ Dark archetypes
The current roster of the guild is composed of a group of fairly puritan Elves who are unimpressed and suspicious of characters that strike bargains with cosmic powers, or make moral (or soul) sacrifices in the name of victory.While Warlocks are not strictly forbidden, working with the order as a warlock will likely result in being looked down upon, judged and generally seen as unimpressive and pitiful. Choose this path only if you have thick enough skin to enjoy that kind of dynamic, even over long periods of time.Demon Hunters, Death Knights and Evokers are - as a general rule - not allowed to join the guild, as they simply raise the bar too much for less powerful peers to realistically keep up, creating awkward power dynamics both internally and when dealing with outside threats.

The Study Of

Spirits

Elementals

"They were there when the world was young. Fire and water, earth and air, spirit and decay. Forces of nature, given form and thought. These Elementals are not our friends, for who could claim a hurricane or forest fire knows loyalty to anything but its own nature? Thus we stand vigilant, that our world and our civilization does not fall to ruin, to flood or quake."

What is the purpose of studying the elements?

In Azeroth’s earliest days, the Elementals Lords and their legions served the dreaded Black Empire of the Old Gods. Though they have since carved their own paths, their mercurial nature remains unchanged.In those olden days, the first Nithraelas stood as guardians and hunters against these volatile beings. Since then, numerous civilizations and cultures have taken a milder stance towards the Elementals, the tradition of shamanism being the foremost advocates of peace and negotiation with them.Yet we have not forgotten the lessons of old. Though some Elementals may be sympathetic to mortals, they are all still bound to their capricious heritage.Those who seek to follow this curriculum will learn to understand, combat, contain and control the Elements.

Classes

Beginner
Understanding the elements, their connection to us and the world around us is the first step we take. To this end, you will learn their history, what distinguishes each of them, characteristics and what distinguishes Spirit from the other elements.Advanced
Once understanding is reached, we will learn how to combat the elements, both on the field of battle and when one has to negotiate with them. Other classes will focus on harnessing Spirit.Master
Finally, master-classes within this curriculum will see peers working together to further our understanding of binding Elemental spirits, and discovering or improving on advanced attunements to specific elements and their planes of existence.

The Dark Arts

"The whispers of the Void, the hunger of Fel, the inevitability of Death - these forces do not require an invitation; they seep into every corner of Azeroth. To understand the Dark Arts is to sharpen your awareness of their presence, to recognize their subtle corruptions, and to defend yourself and others against their insidious influence."

What you will learn

A new addition to the curriculum of the reformed order; one that was not necessary in the old days, in a time when these forces had not fully taken root in our beautiful world.The study of the Dark Arts is not a practice of wielding destructive forces, but a vigilant pursuit of knowledge to protect oneself and others from their reach. Students examine the powers of Shadow, Fel, and necromantic energies in depth, learning to detect their signs and manifestations, and uncovering how they seek to manipulate the living. Through this understanding, they develop defenses against corruption and become sentinels against forces that would unravel Azeroth’s balance.
This discipline is an exercise in vigilance, self-awareness, and willpower, requiring students to confront their fears and remain steadfast in the face of temptation and despair.

Classes

Beginner lessons focus on the foundations of awareness. Students learn to recognize the signs of dark forces in their environment: the faint distortions of the Void, the telltale scorch marks - and brimstone stench - of Fel magic, and the lingering chill of a necromantic presence.They practice mental fortitude to resist the pull of whispered promises and shadowy despair, and deliberate on the power of unity and friendship to overcome the impulses of evil.Early lessons also include practical safeguards, such as crafting charms to ward off corruptive energies or shielding their thoughts from Voidborne intrusions.✧Advanced studies delve into the deeper patterns of darkness, teaching students to map out the networks of Fel corruption or trace Void disturbances back to their sources. At this stage, students study the strategies malign forces use to ensnare their victims - be it through temptation, despair, or raw force - and train themselves to counteract these influences. They practice dispelling or destroying shadow constructs, nullifying curses, and fortifying their own resolve to prevent subtle infiltrations of their mind and spirit.✧Masters of the Dark Arts become vigilant guardians against corruption, working together in tandem with their peers to unravel even the most intricate webs of dark influence. For example, they delve into cleansing Fel-tainted sites, silencing Void whispers before they take root, and breaking necromantic bindings without allowing the spirits to turn on them in hostility.These masters often dedicate their lives to passing on their knowledge, ensuring others do not succumb to the forces they have spent a lifetime resisting. Why are Herbs and Alchemy Important?

Though the Nithraelas of old did not teach this discipline, it was one of the first additions to the modernized curriculum - a testament to how vital its lessons have become for both warriors and scholars in today’s world.Herbs and Alchemy is the art of understanding nature’s hidden power and transforming it into practical, often magical applications. It teaches students how to work with the natural world to extract its essence and craft elixirs, potions, salves, inks and more. From healing the sick to creating volatile concoctions, alchemy is both a science and an art, bridging the gap between the physical and the magical.This is more than just mixing ingredients in a cauldron. It is about understanding balance, recognizing the natural flow of energy in the world, and using this knowledge to create something greater than the sum of its parts. A skilled alchemist is equal parts scientist, apothecary, artist, and magician, wielding nature’s raw potential to their advantage.

Classes

Students begin by learning the fundamentals of herbalism: how to identify plants, understand their properties, and safely harvest them. Lessons include studying common flora, preparing simple salves and tinctures, extracting ink and understanding the basic principles of alchemical reactions. Patience and precision are key to progress for any beginner alchemists.✧On an advanced level, students move beyond the basics and into more complex techniques. They will learn to blend rare and volatile ingredients, create powerful elixirs, and begin experimenting with transmutation. This is where alchemists truly begin to explore the interplay between science and magic.✧Master alchemists are true artisans, capable of crafting highly difficult to make tinctures and performing miraculous feats. This provides a foundation for understanding the more complex and abstract concepts later, such as time and space manipulation, translocation, conjuring, the creation of portals and barriers and so on.In order to become proficient in Arcane magic, one must possess a strong will, a sharp mind, and a disciplined approach to magical study. It can - no, it will - be a challenging and demanding discipline, but for those who master it, the rewards are great.

Beginners will explore the basics of magic, including the history of Arcane practice, its presence within Azeroth, and its applications in everyday life - as well as reflect on how other schools apply it, and instruct in its use.Students will learn about Theory of Mana, identify magical auras, trace ley line intersections, and perform foundational incantations safely.Some of the beginner classes will overlap with studies of Ley Energies and Runes, but will distinguish themselves with a specific focus on Arcane Theory of Runes; and of Ley Lines.✧Advanced students will delve into topics such as conjuring and perfecting various spells, understanding the deeper layers of Elemental magic through the means of Arcane, and developing their magical intuition. "Runes are the silent language of power, etched into the bones of the world. Each line, spiral, and symbol whispers of creation, destruction, and all that lies between. To study runes is to uncover the code that binds reality together - and to write your place within it."

What are Runes?

Runes are the keys to understanding and wielding the primal forces that shape Azeroth.
This discipline is a method; a tool - and it is used by every known cosmic power in the world.For the NIthraelas, the study of rune merges the art of inscription with the science of ley energy, and the understanding of herbs and inks - teaching students how to craft, activate, and interpret the glyphs that govern the flow of magic. A study of runes is both technical and intuitive, requiring equal parts precision and creativity.

Do runes have inate power? Or are they vessels for external powers?
Do they create anything; or are they created?
Are letters in a book runes?Beginners start with the basics of rune identification, learning the meanings behind core shapes such as circles, spirals, triangles, octagons, lines - and so on.

"True masters of philosophy are eternal students; and though there is certainly such a thing as being a beginner, that may very well be where we all remain for the rest of our lives - eternal as they may be."But there is a beginning; and in the beginning, students will focus on understanding their own motivations and weaknesses. This is a time of self-discovery, where students learn how to embrace failure as a teacher and transform personal struggles into sources of strength.Beginner classes will also discuss the core principles of the Order: Strength, Honor, and Loyalty. After all; most-all people would think of themselves as being honourable and loyal; and yet, most-all people would also agree that the world is not an honourable place, nor a loyal one. How can we reconcile our own beliefs with the truth of the world? Can students get to the core of what honour and loyalty truly means? And in doing so; will they discover that they are perhaps neither one or the other?

This philosophy ensures that members are well-rounded and capable of adapting to Azeroth's ever-changing challenges.To that end, all apprentices are expected to participate in at least two extra-curricular activities during their training. What are Spellblade Forms?

These Forms are unique to the weapons forged by the Nithraelas. They are systems and sequences of movements, that optimally harness the ley energies within oneself, one's surroundings, and one's weapon, to produce the optimal conditions in battle, as identified by the wielder.

Classes

Early classes are specifically intended for Initiates, and have a focus on the theoretical and practical fundamentals of Spellblade combat, while being instructed through the practical use of Form I.Beginners focus their time primarily on understanding how Spellblade combat is wildly different from regular swordplay, while dabbling - on a beginner level - into the art of augmenting one's own strength, speed and focus through a symbiotic connection with the ley energies coursing through our world.✧Advanced classes explore the various uses, benefits and shortcomings of Forms II to V. Students are paired together in sparring sessions, and challenged to practise against Forms that expose the weaknesses in their preferred style - and vice versa.Students of Advanced Classes are generally encouraged to choose one Form to make their own, and focus their practice on that. Choosing a form can be an intimate and personal choice, often rooted as much - or more - in one's mentality, temperament and heart, than in the limitations or strengths of one's body.Advanced classes also delve much deeper into the philosophical implications of every form, broadening their understanding of the metaphysical battle that takes place, unseen to the untrained eye, when two Spellblades clash.✧Master classes are for those who have already mastered at least one form of Spellblade combat, and now seek to broaden their understanding of themselves and other forms - among peers - by testing themselves with a second or even a third form.Masters are also introduced to the clandestine and largely forbidden Form VI.
